Son of Edward Herbert and Lillias Elizabeth Hipkins of St. Kilda, Victoria
RAAF Lockheed Hudson aircraft A16-8 of Number 13 Squadron struck the ground during an air to ground gunnery exercise and crashed into the sea at Darwin, NT - all on board were killed. Flying Officer Murray Charles Davies 637 is commemorated on the Northern Territory Memorial

His brother Edward Herbert Collier HIPKINS was a Lieutenant in the Australian Army (VX14848) with the 2nd/17th Infantry Battalion & was discharged on 24th June, 1941
