Son of Thomas and Dorothy Gould Hood; husband of Joyce (nee Watts) Hood of Maroubra, NSW
Prior to enlisting Robert had been employed with Buckinghams Ltd of Sydney and R.H. Gordon and co.
Plane was Lancaster JA 195 crashed at Norfolk, England, cause unknown
Citation for the DFM reads: -
Flight Sergeant Hood has been employed as a rear gunner in one of the outstanding crews of the squadron. The successes achieved are due in a large meausre to the keeness and alertness of this airman
His excellent directions, coolness and presence of mind have enabled the pilot on many occasions to evade enemy opposition and to complete his mission
