Second son of Willia H and Evelyn HUNKIN
Greg was born in Brunswick, Melbourne but his family moved to Numurkah when he was 7 years old. Greg attended primary school and high school in Numurkah. His father owned a vairety stroe and his mother provided board for out of twon students. Hunkin Senior was involved in the school committee. Greg went on to complete his senior education at Melbourne Boy's High School after winning a scholarship. Afterwards he became a teacher.
Greg enlisted in the R.A.A.F. in 1942 and was sent to Britain where he served in Lancaster bomber squadrons, including being part of the D-Day bombing rainds. In June 1944 he was reported 'Missing in action, presumed dead." He is remembered as being conscientious, friendly, positive, realistic and always believed in doing his best.
'Hunkin House' - one of the four school 'houses' is named after him at the Numurkah Higher Elementary School
