HE GAVE HIS LIFE FOR OTHERS
Killed in Action.--The report of the death of Tpr. J. T. Lafferty has been confirmed. Tpr. Lafferty was killed in action In New Guinea and was buried where he fell--well up in the front line. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Lafferty, residents of Coolabunia for more than 20 years. He attended the Kingaroy High School and joined the Kingaroy Light Horse Troop. Later he was employed at Upper Yarra man, and white there became a foundation member of the Yarraman Light Horse Troop. Early in 1940 he enlisted in the AlF., and went overseas at the end of that year. He served in Egypt, Palestine, Cyprus, and Syria, being returned In Australia with his regiment in April. 1942. As the 2nd/7th, they were sent in New Guinea, and their good work there received notice. Tpr Lafferty was among the first to go into action, and he said to a mate, "If I don't get back, tell them I did my best" He leaves a young wife, formerly Nurse Eileen Allen, of Kumbia.
