From How We Served
The final resting place for; - 4120 & V80149 Warrant Officer Class 1 John Charles Mayman of Bowen Vale and Fitzroy, Victoria who at the time of his enlistment in Perth, Western Australia for War Service on the 15th of May 1916 had been employed as a clerk.
John was allocated to reinforcements for the 32nd Battalion 1st AIF and was embarked for England and further training on the 28th of October.
Having arrived in England, John was taken on strength with the AIF Headquarters Training Depot (United Kingdom) and was posted to the 8th Training Battalion at Tidworth on the 27th of February 1917, and by the 4th of May he had been promoted to Regimental Sergeant , and was detailed to remain on the permanent staff based at the Tidworth Training Camp.
John was to remain at Tidworth until he was transferred to the 15th Training Battalion at Codford Camp on the 5th of November. By the 18th of April 1918 John had been returned to Tidworth where he was taken on strength with the 14th Training Battalion.
Aside a short spell of hospitalization, John’s service in England was to be continuous, and with the War’s end he began his repatriation back to Australia, departing England on the 19th of February 1919. Having returned to Australia, John received his official discharge from the 1st AIF on the 5th of July 1919 for his re-entry into civilian life.
With the outbreak of a Second World War, John again presented himself for service with the Australian Military Forces on the 2nd of October 1939, and was accepted for full time service.
By the 25th of January 1940, John had been posted to the 12th Garrison Battalion and would remain with this Unit for the duration of his service within Australia.
On the 17th of June 1945, John was evacuated sick and was admitted into the 115th Australian General Hospital (Heidelberg), suffering from pneumonia, and whilst still a patient he succumbed to illness on the 24th of June.
At the time of his passing whilst still serving with the Australian Military Forces, John was aged 64.
Following his death, Warrant Officer Class One John Mayman, a veteran of the “Great War’, who had enlisted for service in World War Two, was formally laid to rest within Springvale War Cemetery, Victoria.
