Add my storyBiography
Ian McIntyre was the youngest of three children, all boys, born to Duncan Gordon McIntyre and Marian Morison.
Ian was born at Manly in Sydney on 8 June 1922. His father D. G. McIntyre was from Toowoomba and had worked for the Pacific Cable Board since 1903, with postings to Fanning Island, and Bamfield on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
His mother Marian Morison was born in Brisbane and in 1910, obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Sydney, and was a high school mathematics teacher. His parents married in British Columbia in 1915, and had just returned to live in Australia in December 1921, and lived at Kangaroo Street Manly.
Ian's father was appointed office manager of the Pacific Cable Board in Sydney. When Ian was three weeks old, his father died suddenly from influenza and meningitis, on 4 July 1922, at Manly. Ian's mother took her three boys to Tweed Heads to live for a few years, to be near her parents. Then Ian and his mother and two brothers lived in Toowoomba at the McIntyre family home there.
For many years Ian's mother worked as a teacher at Fairhome Girls' College, and Ian and his brothers attended the Toowoomba Grammar School. After leaving school, Ian became a bank teller in Toowoomba, before enlisting in the AIF.
