Aubrey Vernon MEMBREY was born in Maryborough, Queensland on 28th March, 1899
His parents were Henry Alfred MEMBREY & Mary Scott TAINSH who married in Victoria in 1891
He married Millicent Grace MITCHELL in Sydney in 1926 - Millicent died in 2005 aged 108 years
He had served 4 years in the Cadets & was a Corporal in the Militia before he enlisted in Granville, NSW on 5th March, 1918 as a Private & embarked on 19th June 1918 from Sydney on the ship SS Field Marshal with the 1st to 15th NSW reinforcements
Aubrey returned to Australia on 18th December, 1919 & arrived on 7th February, 1920 on the ship Konigin Luise - his Unit at the time was Base Reinforcements Camp - he was discharged on 1st March, 1920
On 28th September, 1942 he re-enlisted in Sydney with the Royal Australian Air Force - his last unit was the 28 Operational Base at Horn Island (6 Transport & Movement Office) & his rank was Flight Lieutenant
Aubrey died accidentally in a ground accident on Thursday Island, Torres Strait on 3rd October, 1944 after a tree branch fell on him
He is buried in the Townsville War Cemetery - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Roll of Honour in Sydney
His brother James Vivian MEMBREY (SN 724) also served in WW2 and returned to Australia in 1919
