Son of Frederick Victor James Oates and Bridget Oates of Darlinghurst, NSW

 

Qantas Empire Airways Flying Boat G- AETZ “CIRCE” was shot down over the Indian Ocean between Java and Broome by Japanese aircraft.  The 4 crewmen on board were killed: Flying Officer Mervyn William Bateman 267574 is commemorated on the Northern Territory Memorial

 

The other three (RAAF Reserve) aircrew are commemorated on the Ambon Memorial, Maluku, Indonesia -
