Francis McLeod PERCY was born in West Maitland in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, on 11 November 1913.
Enlisting in the RAAF on 20 June 1942, Warrant Officer PERCY trained as a Pilot under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS) in Australia, Canada and England, and was later posted to 625 Squadron RAF, operating Lancaster bombers.
On the night of 12/13 August 1944, Warrant Officer PERCY's Lancaster, serial number ME733, radio call sign CF-Z, was shot down and crashed at Hollenstein, Germany after a raid over Brunswick Germany. He was killed alongside his six other crew members in the wreckage of their aircraft. He was 30 years old.
