80SQN RAAF Kittyhawk A29-472 was being tested after an overhaul when the engine stalled during combat practice at high speed and crashed into the water 2 miles north of Cape Gloucester in New Britain

Flying Officer Regan 424798 was killed in this accident - his body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Rabaul Memorial
