Sergeant Simes DFM 402259 in Kittyhawk AK610 of 3SQN was killed when his aircraft was shot down near Mersa Brega in Libya - his body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt
He was part of a group of Kittyhawk fighters escorting seven Maryland bombers to attack enemy positions near Mersa Brega
