Mervyn Stanley
Mervyn was born in Currabubula, South of Tamworth in NSW. He was educated at Neath Primary School and Cessnock High School and had only just left school when he joined the RAAF. He married Ann and a daughter Carol was born while he was overseas on duty. His address was listed as Main Road Abermain while his mother's address was listed as C/O the Post office in Neath.
After training in Australia and Canada, Mervyn joined 148 Sqn RAF, where he became a member of a Wellington crew as a wireless operator/air gunner. Mervyn was lost when his aircraft crashed soon after takeoff from Kabrit airfield in Egypt in 1942. The aircraft exploded after crashing into the Great Bitter Lake, the entire crew except for the rear gunner was lost. Mervyn was only 20 years old when he was lost.
