14 Apr 1940: Embarked Australian Military Forces (Army WW2), Private, VX3284, 2nd/5th Infantry Battalion , Embarked from Melbourne for the Middle East
9 Apr 1941: Embarked Australian Military Forces (Army WW2), Private, VX3284, 2nd/5th Infantry Battalion , 2nd / 5th Battalion embarked for Greece and on arrival made their way north as far as Kalambaka arriving the on the 14th April

Following newpaper  article(no publication information attached) was attached to the rear of the profile image:

"News was received this week that Private Rex SUTHERLAND had been killed in action on 17th April. Private SUTHERLAND was born at Riddell 39 years ago and was the son of Mrs, and the late George, SUTHERLAND. He was the nephew of the Misses C. and L. SUTHERLAND, of Riddell post office, and was educated at Riddell School and Kyneton High School, after which he left to work in Melbourne. Prior to his enlistment he was employed by the State Electrcity Commission. Private SUTHERLAND leaves a wife and child, who will no doubt be greatly comforted by the knowledge that he paid the surpreme sacrifice in gallantly serving his King and country"
