Son of William Nicholas and Edith Emmeline Tippett of Highton, Victoria
Francis Tippett drowned in raging floodwaters near Bundaberg, Queensland while taking part in rescue / evacuation efforts. AC Tippett and other RAAF personnel were trying to cross to a family which earlier in the night refused to leave home when the RAAF boat hit a submerged fence post around midnight and sank. The other airmen were rescued and another RAAF boat managed to reach the stranded family and take them to safety.
