He was 22 and served on H.M.A.S. Sydney - Royal Australian Navy.
His brother, Lieutenant Rupert Basil Treloar aged 21,also died on service with the Royal Australian Navy- H.M.A.S. Napier
They were sons of Harry Roy and Gladys Rita Treloar, of Surrey Hills, Victoria, Australia.
Both are commemorated on the PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL.

Lieutenant Ian Thomas Roy Treloar, HMAS Sydney. From Surrey Hills, Victoria, Treloar began serving in the Royal Australian Navy in 1933. From 1937, he was seconded to the Royal Navy for training, only returning to Australia after the declaration of the Second World War. Lt Treloar was serving aboard HMAS Sydney II when, on 20 November 1941, all 645 personnel were lost following an engagement with the German cruiser Kormoran off the coast of Western Australia. He was 22 years old.
