Biography

The first Kyneton native to be killed in the second world war was Private Vincent Joseph Walsh, 28 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Walsh, of Golden Square, formerly Pipers Creek.

Private Walsh died on 07 Jan 1941 from wounds received in battle, in the attack of Bardia on 05 Jan 1941.

Private Walsh was born in Kyneton, and lived there with his parents until he moved to the Golden Square. He enlisted shortly afterwards and was married to Miss Olga Petzke of Kerang, a few weeks before he was shipped overseas.

Loved Brother of Frank, Kathleen, Lena, Leo, Cyril and Tessie.

Joseph was a labourer before joining the war.
