Monteith Cowper WOOD (Monty) was born on 13th May, 1919 in Bowral, NSW
His parents were Edmund Henry WOOD and Anne Elphinstone Liddon SIMPSON
He enlisted on 30th May, 1940 with the Australian Army - he was a Lieutenant in the 2/13 Australian Infantry Battalion at the time of his death
He served with the 2/13th Infantry Battalion of the 20th Brigade, 9th Australian Division in the Middle East and on the night of 16/17th August he went missing while on patrol from post R11 at Tobruk, he was wounded at Tobruk, later presumed Killed in Action on 17th August, 1941 - aged 22 years
He is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial - Column 91 and also the Australian War Memorial
