"...VX989 Gunner James Dimitri Zampelis, 2/2nd Field Regiment, Australian Field Artillery. Gunner Zampelis, aged 28, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 24 May 1941. He was the son of Gerasimos D. Zampelis and Louise Zampelis, and the husband of Doris Annie Zampelis, of St. Kilda, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
