1899 Alfred joined the A Squadron Mounted Rifles, NSW (Colonial Military
Forces) as a Corporal (Service No. 10)
6/4/1900 He was wounded at Spyfontein, 1900 but recovered
18/10/1900 He died of Enteric Fever, in Pretoria, South Africa
25/10/1900 The Evening News Sydney:-
"The Late Corporal ALLEN"
"FORBES, Wednesday. Much regret has been caused here by the news
in todays cables that Corporal A. Allen of the Forbes Mounted Rifles
had died of enteric fever at Pretoria on 18th instant. He left here with
the First Contingent and was dangerously wounded at Karee in April last,
he recovered after three months in the hospital and went again to the
front only to be struck down by the dreaded enteric. Corporal A Allen
was a most popular man both in & out of the ranks and his untimely
end will be regretted by all."

His name is commemorated on Panel 1, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra,
ACT.
His name is memoralized in the Boer War Memorial in Forbes, NSW, (corner Newell
Highway and Harold Street, Victoria Park, Forbes.)
Inscription: "Erected by the residents of Forbes in memory of the soldiers from this
district who fought and fell for the Empire in South Africa during the
British Boer War 1899 -1902."
This Memorial was unveiled by Colonel C W Waddell, VL, acting District Commandant
CMF NSW on the 19th of December 1904. Names of soldiers who left Forbes for
South Africa and lost their lives during British Boer War 1899-1902.
Alfred's WILL stated (taken from UK sources):
This is the last will and testament of Alfred Edward Elkington Allen of Allendale, Eugowra
in the Colony of New South Wales, Farmer. I give devise and bequeath to my brother
WILLIAM ALEXANDER ELKINGTON ALLEN all my real and personal property whatsoever
and wheresoever and I appoint my said brother Executor of this my Will Dated this third
day of November one thousand eight hundred and ninety nine (1899).
A.E.E. Allen. Signed by the said Testator as and for his last Will and testament in the
presence of us present at the same time and who in his presence and in the presence
of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses. Edward H. E. Allen,
