"TASMANIANS IN SOUTH AFRICA. LETTER FROM MAJOR CAMERON.

The Commandant of the Forces (Colonel Legge) has received the following letter from Major Cameron, commanding the Tasmanian Contingent in South Africa:-  

EDENDALE, July 1, 1900. Sir,- I regret to have to report the death of No. 104 Private J. Butler, of the Second Contingent, which took place near Johannesburg on the 1st June. The cause of death was acute peritonitis..." - from the Hobart Mercury 10 Aug 1900 (nla.gov.au)
