Trooper James Daniel Duff, of the First Bushmen's Contingent, killed at Elands River battle on August, was years of age, a fine specimen of a man, very popular in Millie district, and considered to be one of the most accomplished horse-men in the contingent. Before deceased left, he and his brother, who is also a member of the contingent, were tendered a banquet by the residents, at which they were presented with a gold medal and purse of sovereigns. Deceased's father, Mr. James Duff, is a resident of the Millie district of forty years' standing.
