Son of Joseph and Mary Ellen (nee Cleave) Fitzallen, Albert was living at Ross and was a blacksmith by trade when he enlisted.
Military enthusiasm was strong in the Fitzallen household, for members of the family appear in three contingents. One went with the first, under Major Cameron, another served fifteen months under Colonel Watchorn. These brothers came back safely but the third, Albert Edward Fitzallen who was only 19 died of enteric fever.
