Keith Kinnaird MacKELLAR was born on 17th July, 1880 at the family home 'Dunara' in Point Piper, Sydney

His parents were Sir Charles Kinnaird MacKELLAR & Marion BUCKLAND who married in Sydney in 1877 & he was a brother to the famous australian poet Dorothea MacKELLAR

He joined the NSW Scottish Rifles in 1898 and subsequently enlisted to serve in the Boer War - he embarked as a Lieutenant with the 1st Australian Horse on 17th January 1900 on the ship Surry

Keith died from gun shot wounds to his head on 11th July 1900 at Deedport, South Africa and was first buried in a Wonderbloom Farm in South Africa & later moved to Pretoria

His family brought his body back to Australia and in 1905 he was reburied in Waverley Cemetery in Sydney - he was the only Boer War soldier who died to be brough back to Australia (see Bio link for more information)
