6708915 Private Kevin Brewer, aged 22, of Launceston, Tasmania planned to be a forest ranger when he returned from South Vietnam. Kevin was called up for National Service on 12th July 1967 and was posted to 4RAR. He left for South Vietnam with the Battalion advance party in May 1968.
During Operation TRACK DUSTER in Phuoc Tuy Province on 8th October 1968, 12 Platoon were checking signs indicating that an enemy camp was in the vicinity. A scout had found a bag of clothing close to a track and the platoon commander and the scouts moved a short distance to investigate. From a distance of thirty five metres, the enemy opened fire with small arms and three large command detonated mines. Kev and another soldier, Private Keith Shaw, were killed and six others wounded.
