Brian Jones enlisted in the Army on 5 July 1968 and was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Australian Infantry on 14 June 1969, from the Officer Cadet School Portsea.
Posted to SASR on 23 June 1969 he underwent SAS selection in July 1969.
Brian died on 10 April 1971 when he was accidentally shot during a 20-man force element search and destroy operation in South Vietnam. Brian was participating in a forward two-man reconnaissance when he patrolled back into the defensive position of his own Patrol.
Brian’s next-of-kin at the time of his death was his wife. He was the father of a son.
