Private Christopher Roost, KIA
Today we pause to remember the life and service of 5715153 Private Christopher William Roost, who was killed in action on the 23rd of December 1968 whilst serving in South Vietnam.
Originally from Perth, Western Australia, Chris was a sheet metal worker prior to being called up for National Service on the 19th of April 1967. He was posted to 4RAR and sailed with the Battalion to South Vietnam in May 1968.
On the 23rd of December 1968 Chris was tragically killed during Operation GOODWOOD in Bien Hoa Province. Whilst serving in a dismounted role with 8 Platoon, Chris was one of five men wounded by a directional mine during the patrol. Helicopter evacuation was called for but unfortunately Chris died of wounds before he could be evacuated.
He was 22 at time of his death.
Lest we forget.
