Originally from Gympie, Queensland, Gordon was called up for national service in 1969 and posted to 9RAR, deploying with the Battalion to Vietnam in April that year. He was tragically killed during a contact with the Vietcong on the 30th of June 1969 in Long Khanh province during a patrol.
He was 24 at the time of his death.
