Private James Allan (Service No:Q227840) enlisted in the ACMF in March 1942 and was attached to 9 Battalion VDC (QLD) when he was Discharged in October 1945.
Born in 1907 in Musselburgh Scotland, Jim was the eldest of five children of Alexander Cossar Allan (b1885 in Lanarkshire, Scotland) and Barbara Gilvear Muir (b1886 in Inveresk, Scotland). Alexander (a Coal Miner) and Barbara (a Shop Assistant) married in 1907 in Musselburgh, Scotland and emigrated in 1911, arriving in Brisbane QLD on board the Waipura. Alexander and Barbara settled in Booval in Ipswich QLD, where Alexander was a Coal Miner. He was killed at work in 1925 when coal fell on him, causing internal injuries.
Jim worked as a Coal Miner in Ipswich, QLD and in 1935 married Muriel Edna Dyer (b1911 in Sydney, NSW). Jim and Muriel settled in Rosewood on the Darling Downs, QLD where Jim was a Coal Miner. In the mid 1940s the family moved to Bundamba in Ipswich QLD before settling in Manly, Brisbane QLD where Jim worked as a Coal Trimmer. Muriel died in 1974 and Jim in 1979.
