Don Anderson was one of the boys. A proud Brisbane boy, son of a Carpenter and graduated from Churchie. He played the drums in his local Pipe Band and when war broke out, he voluntarily signed up with his mates for the common cause and to help protect our way of life. It just had to be done. He was unassuming, but held much conviction and purpose. He just wanted to do his bit for his country, but was not militarily ambitious. He never sought promotion from the rank of Private, because he did not want the responsibility over others lives. In December 1945, he returned home to his family in Brisbane and married his sweetheart, Edna. They did not have children. After various sales jobs, he found his way into his career as a plumber. He loved his fishing, sand crabbing and golf too. He eventually found his role that he loved, being Secretary Manager to Nudgee and Pacific Golf Clubs in Brisbane. He was a quiet gentle soul who loved his family, his wife and his mates and always enjoyed his beloved XXXX beer with his mates too. Just make it a XXXX mate and go the Maroons!
