Biography

Thomas Allen enlisted in July 1915, aged almost 30. He was posted as a reinforcement to the 10th Infantry Battalion and before being taken on strength was transferred to the 50th Infantry Battalion in the Middle East in February 1916. He was wounded with a gunshot to the arm in France on 25/4/1918, evacuated to England and returned aboard the 'Arawa' to Australia for recuperation. Discharged medically unfit in 1919, he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. He died in the early 1930s leaving a second wife and four children.
