John was the second of three children of James Barron (born 1887 in Brisbane, QLD) and Florence Edith Anderson (born 1888 in Hay, NSW). James - a Carrier, and Florence married in Blackall, QLD in 1916. This was a second marriage for Florence, who had three children from her first marriage. James and Florence lived in Longreach, Cairns, Rockhampton and Yepoon in QLD.
John was a Labourer in Yepoon, QLD in 1941 when he enlisted in the Australian Army. He served as a Private (QX20351) with 2/25th Infantry Battalion 3rd Reinforcements. On 23 December 1943 he was Mentioned in Dispatches (London Gazette, Commonwealth of Australia Gazette) for Gallantry in New Guinea. John was Discharged in January 1944. Half brothers Lawrence Langfield (Service No:NX93471), Harold Dennis Langfield (Service Nos:QX22004/Q71372) and Roy Langfield (Service No:QX28172) and brother Kenneth James Barron (Service No:QX12280) also served in WWII.
John was working as a Labourer in Toowong, Brisbane, QLD following his Discharge, and in the mid 1950s married Gladys Runge (born 1906 in Melbourne, Victoria). Gladys had served as an Aircraftwoman witht the RAAF (Service No:174269) in WWII and was working as a Librarian in Toowong, Brisbane, QLD when they married.
John and Gladys settled in Torwood in Brisbane, QLD where John worked as a Linesman. He died in 1987 and Gladys in 1994.
