Private Alexander Ross Benzie (Service No:Q16455) enlisted in the ACMF on 22 August 1940 with 11th Battalion VDC and was classified as Cook. Private Benzie then served with 9th Infantry Battalion in New Guinea (19 July 1942 - 10 January 1944) and Solomon Islands (14 August 1944 - 29 May 1945 and 12 July 1945 - 3 November 1945). Private Benzie was Discharged on 20 November 1945.
Born in 1915 in Brisbane QLD, Alec was the seventh of eleven children of James Benzie (b1869 in Aberdeen, Scotland) and Louisa Fanny Shove (b1881 in Surrey, England). James had immigrated in 1889, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Jumna, and Louisa arrived in Brisbane, QLD in 1900, also on the Jumna. James (a Van Driver) and Louisa married in 1902 in Brisbane, QLD where they settled and raised their family and James worked as a Van Driver, Lorryman, Carter and Groom and served in WWI (Private; Service No:2016).
Alec worked as a Labourer in Brisbane, where in 1940 he married Beatrice May Clarke (b1919 in Brisbane, QLD). Alec and Beatrice settled in Brisbane where Alec worked as a Labourer and from the late 1940s as a House Painter. Beatrice died in 2008 and Alec in 2010.
