Hector ALFORD was born in 1889 at Ellerslie, Victoria
His parents were William Henry ALFORD & Annie RANKIN
He enlisted in Melbourne on 16th March, 1916 and embarked with the 5th Infantry Battalion, 18th reinforcements on 3rd July, 1916 on the HMAT Ayrshire
He was wounded on 8th May, 1917 at Bullecourt and admitted to Lakenham Military Hospital in Norwich, England with gun shot wounds to his skull, cerebellum & right thigh
He was returned to Australia totally incapacitated on 25th November, 1917 on the hospital ship Karoola and was admitted to Caulfield Hospital - he was dischargedfrom the Army on 23rd July, 1918
Hector died from the effects of his wounds on 17th December, 1920 at Ellerslie and is buried in Ellerslie Cemetery in Victoria
