Embarked Sydney 11/11/1916 from Unit 4th Divisional Headquarters with Medium Trench Mortar Battery Reinforcement 4 aboard HMAT A29 Suevic.
Disembarked at Cape Town and hospitalized with Measles 14/12/1916. Re-embarked 12/01/1917 for Plymouth aboard HMAT A67 Orsova, arriving England 17/02/1917.
Embarked Folkestone (South England) 15/3/1917.
Arrived Etaples (North France) 16/03/1917.
George served with 4th Divisional Artillery Column, the 11th Field Artillery Brigade and the 4th Artillery Divisional Headquarters in England, France and Belgium who in this period fought in the following: Retreat to the Hindenburg Line, Bullecourt, Messines, Menin Road, Polygon Wood, Passchendaele, Villers Bretonneux, Hamel, Amiens, Albert and the Hindenburg Line.
He was admitted to 39 General Hospital at Le Havre (North France) 18/04/1919 (N.Y.D - Not Yet Determined), returning to Australia aboard HMAT A28 Miltiades leaving Plymouth 19/06/1919, arriving Melbourne and discharged 08/08/1919.
George suffered “Shell Shock”.
