Arthur was the third of four children of Ernest Arthur Buchanan (b1881 in Port Douglas, QLD) and Mary Lewis (b1883 in Ravenswood, QLD). Ernest (a Storeman in Mossman QLD) and Mary married in 1909 in Mossman and lived there until the early 1920s when they moved to Townsville where Ernest worked as a Clerk. Ernest and Mary moved to Brisbane in the late 1930s.
In March 1940 Arthur was working as a Clerk in Townsville, QLD when he married Eleanor (Nellie) Alice Armstrong (b1913 in Townsville, QLD) - Nellie was working as a Clerk. Arthur enlisted in the Australian Army in August 1940 and was a Lance Sergeant (Service No:QX11457) attached to 2/2 Machine Gun Battalion when he was Discharged in October 1945.
Arthur and Nellie moved to Bowen, QLD where Arthur was a Carrier and Forwarding Agent before purchasing a garage in Wacol, Brisbane in 1954. In 1958 Arthur and Nellie moved to Wilston in Brisbane, where Arthur worked as a Salesman before relocating to Palm Beach on the Gold Coast in 1959. Arthur worked as a Property Dealer and Company Director on the Gold Coast, where he died in 1991 and Nellie in 1997.
