"Mr. George Finlay Townsend a guard of the South Australian railways, who was killed recently while on duty, was the eldest son of Mrs. Marshall, of Stockport and the late Thomas Townsend of Peterborough. He served in the Great War. He is survived by a widow, formerly Irene C. Wilson, of Caversham. W.A. and four sons." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 11 Jan 1940 (nla.gov.au)
