Myrtle was the second of six children of James William Carswell (b1886 in Gympie, QLD) and Mabel Guard (b1890 in Gympie, QLD). James (a Miner) and Mabel married in 1914 in Gympie, QLD where they settled and raised their family. James worked as a Miner and Labourer.
Myrtle enlisted in the Australian Army (AAMWS) in June 1943. She was a Private (Service Nos: QF55556/Q268463) attached to 2/12 Australian General Hospital when she was Discharged in May 1945. Brothers Gordon William (Private; Service No:Q135483) and Stanley Jack (Leading Aircraftman; Service No:151882), Brothers-in-Law Colin Ray Chapman (Service No:QX63372) and Robert Edward Nobbs (Service No:QX37890) and Sister-in-Law Dorothy June Hall (Private; Service No:NF480145) also served in WWII.
Myrtle returned to Gympie where she lived with her parents - in the Electoral Rolls Myrtle lists her employment as being with the AAMWS. Myrtle died in 1968.
