World War II
William Winterbottom Chadwick enlisted for active duty during World War II on the 15th July 1940 at Brisbane, Queensland. At the time of his enlistment he was living with his wife, Ida Victoria Chadwick (Wild) at King Street, Somerset, Dam, Queensland. At the time of enlistment his occupation was that of a Storekeeper.
William was appointed Staff Sergeant with the Australian Army Corp on the 4th October 1941. He was discharged from active service on the 1st December 1943 and at the time held the rank of Lieutenant.

History of William Winterbottom Chadwick
William Winterbottom Chadwick was born on the 26th October 1894 at Coorparoo, Queensland. He was the youngest child of Joseph Hunston and Mary Ann Chadwick (Winterbottom).
On the 20th August 1915 William enlisted with the Australian Military Forces for Active Service during World War I. He was twenty-one years old.
William embarked from Sydney on the 24th November 1915 on board the HMAT A40. His rank on enlisted was that of a Driver with the 6th Field Company Engineers.
He served in Egypt and the Western Front.
While still serving he married Ida Victoria Wild on the 15th October 1919 at The Parish Church, Sally Hill, Worcester, England and they both returned to Australia on the 31st December 1919 on board the ship "Thermostocles".
