Uglow BATCHELOR was born on 13th August, 1877 in St Marys Cray, Kent, England

His parents were John William BATCHELOR and Florence Elizabeth WHOMES

He arrived in Australia on the ship SS Himalaya in 1898

Uglow served in the Boer War & saw service in East Transvaal Free State including defeat at Mokari Drift on 27th September, 1901 and the Natal Border Campaign including stand at Onverwacht on 4th January, 1902  -  returned to Australia on 30th April, 1902 on the ship St Andrew & then worked as a Miner at Mount Morgan

He married Janet Marie PEACOCK in 1905 in Queensland and had 7 children - Janet died on 11th June, 1925

He re-enlisted on 12th May, 1915 at Mount Morgan in Queensland for WW1 & returned on the ship Marathon on 8th August, 1916 for home service - he was discharged on 18th October, 1916

He was awarded the Queen & Kings South Africa Medals with clasps in the Boer War and the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & Victory Medal in WW1.

Uglow died on 10th December, 1919 at Cattle Creek, Mount Morgan, Queensland and is buried in Mount Morgan Cemetery - Section 4, Row D4, Grave 108
