Obituary - E. S. Eggins
Mr. Eric Stanley Eggins, one of Maroochydore’s best-known citizens, passed away on Sunday last in the Greenslopes Military Hospital. Deceased was born at Grafton (N.S.W.) 60 years ago, and came to Maroochydore in 1915. He enlisted in the First A.I.F. and was badly wounded in the Battle of Amiens in 1917 and invalided back to Australia. The late Mr. Eggins was associated with the late Mr. P. Evans, in conducting a boat service on the Maroochy River, and also engaged in fishing. Three years ago he narrowly escaped with his life when a huge whale surfaced near his boat off Maroochydore. Surviving him are his widow and five daughters, Mesdames I. Page (Auckland, N.Z.), E. Kitchener, (Brisbane), E. Muir, Misses M. and Daphne Eggins (Maroochydore) and a son, Mr. Stanley Eggins (Maleny). There are eight grandchildren. Deceased’s brothers are Messrs. Thomas and Lionel (Clarence River), Lyle (Sydney), Gregory (Lidcombe) and Fred (Drummoyne), and sisters, Mesdames M. McWhinne (Sydney), I. Green (Tweed Heads) and V. W. Perren (Maroochydore). - The Nambour Chronicle, issue dated Friday December 23, 1955.
