Lieutenant Norman Phillip Francis (Service No:Q227518) served with 9 (QLD) Battalion VDC from 5 April 1942 to 22 October 1945. He had served in France in WWI (Private; Service No:5020).
Norman was the fourth of nine children of Jacob Francis (b1862 in Wagga Wagga, NSW) and Elizabeth (Annie) Ann McBean (b1864 in Ipswich, QLD). Jacob and Annie married in 1885 and lived in Ipswich, Ma Ma Creek, Grandchester, Roma and Laidley where Jacob was a Blacksmith.
Norman worked as a Carpenter and Cabinetmaker in Laidley QLD prior to WWI, and in 1921 in Laidley he married Christina Elliott Gardner (b1895 in Roxburghshire, Scotland) - Christina immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1913, arriving in Rockhampton, QLD on board the Shropshire and settling in Laidley, QLD. Norman and Christina settled in Ipswich QLD, where Norman was a Coachbuilder for WAGR. Christina died in 1961 and Norman in 1975.
