William Jnr was the youngest of five children of William Granger (born 1879 in Glasgow, Scotland) and Edith Wilcok (born 1878 in Yorkshire). William Snr - a House Painter in Ipswich, QLD - married Edith Wilcok in 1906 in Ipswich, where they raised their family until moving to Manly, QLD in the late 1920's. William Snr served in WWI (Service No:1076)

A House Painter at Manly in QLD, William was living in Brisbane when he enlisted in the AMF in 1939. Older brother John enlisted in the RAAF (Service No:9375) in 1940. William served with 2.3 Australian Transport Platoon as a Driver in the Middle East (1940 - 1942 in Palestine, Crete, Syria and Greece), as a Corporal with 49 New Guinea Details Depot (Moresby, Lae: 1942 - 1944) and with 6th Division AASC in Aitape in 1945 - at his own request he reverted to the rank of Driver. William was Discharged in 1945.

In 1944 William married Norma Alexandra Watson (born 1919 in Brisbane, QLD) - Norma worked as a Machinist. William worked as a House Painter in Manly, and he and Norma moved to Bundaberg in the late 1950s. They reloctaed on Ashgrove in Brisbane in 1963 and William worked as a Manager. William and Noram divorced, and both remarried - William to Marjorie, and Norma to George.

William and Marjorie lived at Manly and Beenleigh in QLD, where William worked as a Van Driver until he retired.
