Joe was the eldest of four children of Joseph (Joe Snr) Gisbourne Greene (b1888 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Nellie Richards (b1888 in Lancashire, England). Nellie arrived in Brisbane, QLD in 1899 on board the Duke of Argyll. Joe snr - a Miner in Howard, QLD) - and Nellie married in 1910 in Ipswich, QLD where they raised their family. Joe snr worked as a Miner until his death in 1947.
In 1935, Joe - a Shop Assistant - married Grace Alma Jordan (b1911 in Ipswich, QLD) in Ipswich, where they settled and raised their family. In February 1942, Joe enlisted with the ACMF (Private; Service No:Q148670) and served with Heavy Anti Artillery Batteries and 7th Field Ambulance in New Guinea. He was attached to 56 Composite AA Regiment AAMC when he was Discharged in June 1945. Brother Arthur (Private; Service No: 78212) served in WWII and son Neil Joseph (Corporal; Service No:A113189) served with the RAAF in Vietnam.
Joe returned to Ipswich and worked as a Shop Assistant. Grace died in 1992 and Joe in 1995.
