3843 Pte George Ernest Randal Alderson
From How We Served
3843 Private George Ernest Randal Alderson of Stepney, South Australia had immigrated to Australia from England and had served wth in the British Teritorial Army prior to enlisting for War Service with the 1st AIF on the 5th of October 1917.
At nearly 44, George was older then most when he joined up and was married and privatley employed as a contractor. George was allocated to reinforcements for the 48th Battalion 1st AIF and embarked for England and further training on the 22nd of March 1918. Joining his Unit in the trenches of France, where he was taken on strength on the 16th of August, George's service was continuous until War's end.
George was returned to Australia on the 17th of August 1919 for demobilisation and received his formal discharge from the 1st AIF as of the 10th of September 1919. George's death occurred whilst he was a patient of the Keswick Hospital on the 24th of December 1922 at the age of 49. Private Alderson was formally laid to rest within West Terrace Cemetery, South Austraalia.
