"...1995 Pte Philip Warburton Symonds, 48th Battalion, from Merghiny, South Australia... enlisted at the age of 23 on 1 March 1916 and embarked for overseas on 13 July 1916 aboard HMAT Seang Bee. He was wounded and captured at Bullecourt, France on 11 April 1917 and subsequently had his left leg amputated. He was held in German POW camps until he was repatriated to Holland on 2 January 1918. He arrived in England on 8 January 1918 and received further surgery. Pte Symonds arrived back in Australia on 29 January 1919..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
