Private Norman James Ireland (Service No:QX57493) first enlisted in the ACMF (Service No:Q100908) and served as a Private with 13th Field Bakery in New Guinea (1 February 1942 - 2 December 1942 and 16 May 1943 - 6 February 1944). Private Ireland was 'in the field' in New Guinea when he enlisted in the AIF on 7 September 1943 and served with 13th Field Bakery until Discharge on 10 April 1946.
Born in 1922 in Brisbane QLD, Norman was the son of Cecil James Ireland (b1902 in Brisbane, QLD) and Edith Jessie Ann Benzie (b1904 in Brisbane, QLD). Cecil (a Tanner) and Edith married in 1922 in Brisbane, QLD where they settled and Cecil worked as a Tanner - he also served in WWII (Sapper; Service No:Q189899), stating his employment was Licensed Drainer.
Norman was an Apprentice Baker in Brisbane in 1941 when he enlisted, and following his discharge returned to Brisbane where he was a Metal Worker. In the mid 1950s Norman married Eunice Mary Sanney (b1920 in Brisbane, QLD) - Eunice was a Nurse. Norman and Eunice settled in Brisbane where Norman was a Metal Worker. Norman died in 1985 and Eunice in 2010.
