Leslie was the youngest of eleven children of Frederick Knight (born 1864 in Hampshire, England) and Alice Mary Alder (born 1866 in Brisbane, QLD). Fred was a Wheelwright's Apprentice when he arrived in Brisbane, QLD in 1883 on board the Waroonga. He was a Miner in 1889 when he married Alice in Brisbane, and they lived in Ipswich before moving to Gympie in QLD.
Leslie was working as a Labourer at Mossman in QLD in 1937 when he married Maria Jane Lopes (born 1914 in Mossman, QLD). Les enlisted in the Australian Army in March 1942 and was a Sergeant (Service No:QX31322/NX48048) attached to 163 Anti Aircraft Battery when he was Discharged in November 1944. Older brother Vivian George Knight (Service No:3385) served in WWI.
Returning to Mossman, QLD following his Discharge, Les worked as a Labourer until his death in 1972. Maria died in Mossman in 2007.
