Son of Peter Leonard Osterlund and Margaret Osterlund nee Tounquist of Sundswall, Sweden.

Husband of Ellen Mary Osterlund nee Thompson of Lake Street, Cairns, QLD. Axel and Ellenn married on 7 October 1903 in QLD.

During 1908 Axel had served with the Naval Reserves fot four months.

Commenced return to Australia on 18 October 1917 aboard HT Beltana disembarking on 10 December 1917 at Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane.

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal 

Pre and post war Axel was employed with Howard Smith Ltd. of Cairns, QLD an industrial company originally set up as a shipping company but later expanded to including coal mining.
