Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

In the Ararat Advertisor of April 1916 an article is headed "Family of Fighting Irishmen," and the particulars set forth in it are as follow: "Mr Chas. Brady, senior, of Ararat, is proud of the fact that he has given five of his sons to the service of his country, and the sixth has been rejected three times because of physical defects. Mr. Brady, born at Longford Ireland, is seventy-two years of age. He landed in Australia during 1864 and has spent most of his time since in Dunkeld Victoria. Private Charles Brady, 38, took part in the landing at Gallipoli on 25th April and was reported missing after the charge at Cape Helles on 8th May 1915. He also served in the South African war. Private John Brady, 36, is serving in the 8th Brigade. Patrick Brady, 34, has volunteered three times, and been rejected on account of ill-health; Lance-Corporal S. E. Brady, 28, took part in the landing at Gallipoli on 25th April. He was in the charge at Cape Helles on 8th May 1915, and was invalided home after four months' duty in the trenches. Lance-corporal L. W. Brady, 23, and Sapper E. A. Brady, 21, are attached to the Field Engineers.”
