William's parents were Moses Stubbings and Sarah Ann Strain. Both were pioneering families of the district. William's father, Moses first selected land at Laceys Creek in 1879, he was described in his obituary as a pioneer of the Dayboro district and life member of the Q.A.T.B. William enlisted 10 May 1916 in Brisbane. His parents owned a farm at Laceys Creek and William is on the electoral roll as a farmer at Laceys Creek at the time of enlisting. He was killed in action 25 September 1917, previously reported missing.
